Parade of Daily Celebrations

Celebrate Every Day! I'll post (or try to post) something to day to celebrate each day, in some way. I try to keep it small, but some days call for more. I may not always get the date perfect (blame it on my sources) and I'll usually only focus onone or two celebrations, so please don't flame me if I miss your fave -- I may be saving it for next year!

Today is National Video Games Day, but July 8 was Video Games Day. Though I'm all for any excuse to play video games, maybe we should have a Plan B for those who aren't as interested...

So, in memory of Johnny Cash, who died on this date in 2003, get thee to the video store and rent Walk the Line. Add popcorn, mix well.

You already know what today is. Take some time out today and have a quiet moment of remembrance for those who died in the WTC attacks. Read up on the ongoing issues surrounding the attack. Donate to a surviving families fund. Most importantly, never forget.

On a lighter note, today is also Make Your Bed Day.

Today is International Literacy Day. Consider volunteering for or supporting your local literacy council, or the literacy programs run at your local library. At the very least, celebrate your own literacy by using this weekend to finish up the book you started on Wednesday.

Today is Neither Rain Nor Snow Day, in honor of the opening of the Farley Post Office building in New York, this date in 1914. So, when's the last time you used snail mail? Go out and send your mom, significant other, or best friend a card or postcard, the old fashioned way. Yes, even if you already live with them. It's a cheap way to cheer someone up -- getting something other than bills is a happy, happy thing.

Paradoxically, today is both Read a Book Day, and Fight Procrastination Day. I don't know about you, but one of my primary modes of procrastination is reading... So, don't wait! Read a book! If you want to be extra virtuous, you can read about overcoming procrastination.

Today is National Trail Mix Day. Why not try making your own trail mix, and enjoying this salty-sweet snack all weekend?

Today is Toasted Marshmallow Day. Do you really need any more of an excuse to make s'mores? Or just do what I do -- leave the graham crackers in the kitchen, eat the chocolate while you're getting the fire going, and then try to acheive perfect toastedness before eating the sugar blob by itself.
